Recently I started a 6th grade boys small group. We meet at the new Dairy Queen on hwy 248 in Branson. This is a great location because there is nobody in the store at 7 o’clock in the morning and it is close to the intermediate school. The other day we were talking about humility and resigning as the CEO of your life. Out of nowhere the stores music started playing the loudest, most annoying country song that I have ever heard. The boys got distracted and started to laugh uncontrollably. From that moment I could not regain their attention back.
That incident reminded me about our walk with Christ, and how we can sometimes get distracted. Lets take a look at what happened to Peter when he was asked by Jesus to walk to him on water. Matt 14:25…
During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It's a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.”
“Lord, if it's you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
We need to ask Jesus for help when we feel like we are sliding off the path that leads to an awesome relationship.

A Work in Progress
I have this bookshelf that I have been working on for sometime now, it’s work in progress. I started the project with my two boys as a way for us to earn some extra money. We went to the hardware store together to pick out the wood. I mean, we were ready to whip this bookshelf out and it was going to be awesome. As we began working together, things started to go down hill really quickly. The air compressor did not have enough pressure for nail to work. The wood pieces didn’t fit just right. The list could go on and on. So, you know what we did? We just stopped, put the shelf to the side and said we would work on it another day. Time has gone by, and the shelf still sits. A couple days ago, I started working on the shelf to try to finish it up.
As I was working, I started thinking about how our life in Christ is a work in progress. First, we must invite him into our hearts so that the great carpenter can go to work crafting you into his own image. God is at work around you all the time, so don’t give up like I did on the bookshelf. There will be days that go by that you don’t feel God is at work, but He is there for you. He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
So, keep plugging along!

Initiative
Initiative-seeing what needs to be done and doing it. This virtue is what the kids at Woodland Hills Family Church have been learning this month. They learned that Nehemiah took initiative to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. By doing this God was honored by what he had done.
Today, I have been thinking a lot about the word initiative. I have been pondering the idea, what if we took the idea of seeing what needs to be done and doing it to a new level with sharing of our faith. I think we all know someone that is unchurched, and needs a little hope in their life right now. So, my challenge for you today is to think of the one or two people in your life right now and start investing in them and let God do the rest.

So here we go...
Welcome to my blog, I am so excited about sharing what God is teaching me through my marriage, parenting, church and job. I am looking forward to seeing what God can do through me - a maintenance man.
